While plenty of supplements claiming to net you quick results themselves are usually bogus, there are definitely a few that I would consider a staple for anyone who wants to keep themselves in shape and feel good. Although it’s important to keep in mind that supplements are just that, supplements. They won’t make the results for you, rather they’ll simply make things a little easier.
Above any other supplement, the first thing I would recommend is a well balanced multivitamin. While all multivitamin products are similar, some have added ingredients that cover a wider ranger of purposes. Some are tailored towards brain health. Some will assist towards preventing age related decline. Lastly, lots will focus more on general health or fitness. There are many more types, but these are the most common.
A multivitamin can fix possible vitamin deficiencies that a large portion of the population suffers from which can manifest in symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, body aches and more. For the purposes of getting in shape and achieving maximum fitness, I would recommend a more well rounded multivitamin. In this case I feel that Optimum Nutrition Opti-Men Multivitamin
is the best for this purpose. Conversely, if you are a woman then I would recommend the Opti-Women version.
Fish Oil Supplement
Along with multivitamins, fish oil is a staple for overall health. Fish oil can help assist in lowering your body’s inflammation and in doing so, has a whole host of benefits. These benefits include but aren’t limited to:
- Joint health improvement
- Improved energy levels
- Reduced body pains
- Increased brain metabolism and health
- Greater fat loss and increased lean muscle
- Improved circulation and heart health
- Lowered blood pressure
- Treats depression
and the list goes on. The reason for these benefits is the DHA, and EPA in these fish oils. DHA is more centered towards lowering brain inflammation, whereas EPA works more towards lowering bodily information. When these two go hand in hand as they do in fish oil, full body benefits are achieved.
Healthy fats like those in fish oil are especially needed by our bodies in a time where inflammation is at its highest. Given all these foods with high amounts of saturated fats and low healthy fat content are consumed by a large amount of people, it’s easy to notice an imbalance. You’ll feel tired, foggy, depressed, achy, among other symptoms.
There is however an issue with certain fish oil supplements. Mercury! Some contain high amounts of mercury due to the mercury content in the fish that it was extracted from. This isn’t true with all brands however, just certain ones. This is why I recommend a pure brand like Omega 3 Fish Oil Pills by Dr. Tobias. These are tested for purity and effectiveness.
Melatonin For Better Sleep
If you can’t fall asleep and are in need of a good night’s rest, then Melatonin won’t disappoint. I personally avoid taking it every night. Becoming dependant on a sleep aid isn’t a very good long term. In my opinion, it’s helpful to have it just in case.
Rest is probably the most important aspect of getting in shape. Without rest, how can your body rebuild and recover? When you don’t get good sleep for nights on end, it builds up. This can lead to accumulated sleep deprivation. The symptoms of sleep deprivation are:
- Poor mental function
- Body aches
- Memory Problems
- Weight gain(the bad kind)
- ADHD like symptoms
and much more. Sleep is important not just for getting in shape. It’s also important for feeling good and happy.
